Was so bummed. Went about a month ago and it was soooooooo good so before I start my diet, I wanted to splurge one last time. Got the shogun special (lobster, shrimp, and steak) and it was bleh! The fried rice was dry and overcooked, the lobster and shrimp lacked seasoning and butter and the the steak was so dry, you can tell just by looking at it. So disappointed and won't be back for awhile that's for sure :(.

Always fun but it's so loud that it is next to impossible to talk. You have to wait at the table grill for it to fill up with guests before the dinner show begins. You are asked if you want a drink and you wait and wait. It just seems like you wait and then you are rushed. The drinks and sushi (if requested) arrive with your dinner salad and the cooking starts. Gosh, your watching the chef cook and do fancy tricks but your trying to enjoy your drink and sushi while the salad sits untouched and the chef is starting to load up your plate with his cooked delights. So how do I rate THE SHOGUN Restaurant? Quality of food is a FIVE STAR Chef talent and cooking skills is a FIVE STAR If your looking for dinner entertainment is a FIVE STAR If your looking to communicate with friends it's a ONE STAR If your looking to relax and mellow out its a ONE STAR Since I must give a single rating for THE SHOGUN it has to be PERFECT FIVE STAR for this type of restaurant. So, if you want to forget about the weeks events, the bad economic news on TV and leave all your electronic devices in the car - then this is a great dining experience for the entire family. For me, it's a restaurant that you simply have to visit SHOGUN at least once a year plus, the kids and grandkids love it!

I go every time its my birthday. I love this place. The staff is really awesome. Food is awesome and entertaining. Worth the wait every time.

The sushi side of Sho Gun has a great happy hour and dinner menu. This is the best side of the restaurant. The revolving sushi bar broke, so that is not fun.

If you are looking to have a fun lunch or dinner experience. Then you must come here. Great for families, couples. This place just blows Benihana away by far. The food is all so fresh and cooked perfectly to your likes. The show that the cooks put on for you while they are cooking your food is just Amazing. I really love coming this place a lot. I always order filet mignon and shrimp along with the fried rice. You won't be disappointed at all.

Best place in The area, my favorite restaurant. Brittney and Tom are the best, management go's above and beyond. Been coming here since it opened. Love this place. If I was rich would have build in my house. William Flores

Been to the locations in Corona and La Verne and both are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Food is great. I think the more you interact with the chef, the better the show. Nothing bad to say.

I really like Shogun. We did my sisters proposal here and they helped us out so much! It was an amazing surprise for my sister! The food is excellent as well. Will def be back!

Many restaurants in the area but I like this one better than the others. Price seems to be a bit more fair and the seem to give you a bit more and higher quality food. We ordered a order of spicy tuna roll and 2 orders of salmon roe with quail egg and while not as good as a Japanese restaurant it was still good. Steak was good and juicy. I ordered the seafood combination dinner and it was really good. Scallops and salmon were very tasty. Over all it's noting special over the other teppan restaurants buti was happy. Good service too.

This place has great sushi. Price is a little high but the happy hour which is is only during Spring and Summer. The front desk are amazing at least the ones who have been there a long time. At times the place gets a little crazy but they take care of you.

We went here to celebrate birthdays and for the teppan cooking. The kids had a great time. The chef was entertaining. The food was OK. We ordered the chicken and scallops combo.

I found a fun place to go to with big groups!!! It has an amazing staff and the chefs are fun. The food is delicious and is beautifully made. The place is clean and the wait is typically not too long. We have lots of fun when we go there. It is a bit pricey but it's still worth it. Definitely going there SOON

Shogun is better than any of the sushi places around the area. Great food. Can't go wrong with anything you order.

A learned to adore Japanese cooking when visiting the country years ago. Shogun rates high on my list, and I am a regular customer. I have dared to bring critical Japanese friends as my guests with positive results, several times starting a pattern of their returning on their own. Not a particularly romantic place, rather business like and, when busy, a bit noisy, but the service has always been decent and the food great. Stewart Gordon

What I ate: Teriyaki beef tepan-style, green iced tea Visit date: November 5, 2011 First time? Yes. It was my first time at a teppan style meal so I wasn't going to order off of the regular menu. Gimme a fire show! I was entertained. It was kind of like watching a live version of your favorite cooking show...with flames and corny jokes. The food was delicious too. But really, how can you go wrong with a grill and butter? :) I would definitely go for a teppan meal again, but not necessarily at Shogun, just so I could experience different shows. ...O, and the green iced tea was murky looking and not that great. Stick with a hot one, or go for one of their alcoholic drink items where you can keep the glass (my friend got a cute ceramic cat!).

This is kinda those local-faves in the quaint suburbs... Both a sushi restaurant and a teppan, Shogun has enthusiastic service and good food. Sashimi is fresh and the teppan "show" is always entertaining (this is awful, but for once, I'd like to see someone drop somethin' while cookin'-n-dicing'-n-flippin'). We love the: * inexpensive but delish bento box combos (their tempura is especially good) * fresh sushi (not a fan of the sushi-train though, the knick-knacks on it are ridic) * nice interiors, open feel, bamboo-touches * friendly service (esp. Mai) 4 stars~

Went there for our 12 year old sons BD, and his grandmothers also. We had just been to Benihana for Father's Day. Shogun meal is prepared in front of you more quickly than B. Pricing about the same. Our chef Tommy was great, funny, he had lines we have not heard before. Meal was excellent, large portions. I had 3 Stella Pinot Grigios, wine was okay. Meal for four was $154, that's with 4 Glasses of wine and 2soft drinks. We would return without hesitation

This place HAD been by far one of my favorite places to dine. Great prices and food. Until my husband and I decided to go on a date night here. We opted to sit by the sushi bar. Ordered our favorites. As we're eating my husband starts blowing a critter away. To our surprise it was a baby roach crawling into his plate. Now I'm a dietician with some experience in food service and my food handlers certificate, and I know for a fact if baby roaches are present it must mean there is a bad infestation of Vermin in the facility. We were both disgusted. I asked for the manager immediately. She came over and just took the white napkin I had used to kill the roach and never came out again. Not even to apologize on behalf of the restaurant or to tell us our meal was on the house. My husband and I sat there waiting for her for about 15 minutes until I asked a waitress and she said "Oh she's not coming back out your meal is on the house." We left Shogun disgusted and disrespected. I will never again have a meal here and I will def tell all of my friends and family that loved this place about the horrible experience.

Went for lunch with 8 others. They easily accommodated us. The lunch menu had plenty of options. I got the steak Yakisoba. It came with a salad grilled veggies and steamed rice. The food was good, a little on the oily side but nevertheless good. The portions were large and I didn't finish is all. The biggest surprise was the steak, I guess I had low expectations. I'd go back.

Really good sushi and lunch specials! I also LOVE the udon here! Great speedy service and the sushi bar is very friendly.. The teppan is also very good however I prefer different sauces with my teppan.. The quality of food is still wonderful though- definitely a great spot for locals

Food is great service is TERRIBLE. I don't know what happened... I have been here many times before and the service just seems to be getting worse every time. We waited 25 minutes just to get our drink order taken, and no one comes by to check on the tables... I understand that it's busy, but it is always busy so management should hire more staff.. They always have a full house So I'm sure they can afford it! Disappointed!!

I love this place overall but came here on a non-holiday and was told that they don't do happy hour at all during the holidays! It's a regular day so why don't they? Doesn't make sense to me.

Our favorite sushi spot! Wish we lived closer but definitely worth the travel. Sashimi is always fresh & service is always on point. Inexpensive compared to other sushi joints, which is why we always come back. We always sit at the sushi bar & never have to wait. The sushi chefs are friendly & always know our orders & have recommendations for us.

Love the teppan! I always get the shogun special, comes with steak, lobster, scallops, and shrimp! Bomb!!! I also always request the only female chef!! Her name is Kuman and she is amazing, full of energy, and she always make my friends and I laugh!! She is the reason why you would want to sit @ the teppan side for great entertainment!!

Came for lunch. Ordered the lunch combo with chicken katsu and spicy tuna roll. Miso soup was good, but the rest of my meal was pretty salty. Everything was salty. My salad, chicken, and 4 pieces of spicy tuna. I also wish they had specified on the menu that it was half a roll and not a full roll for the combo. Service was mediocre. Lady didn't seem too thrilled being there .. or maybe she wasn't too thrilled we were there? Whatever the case, I wouldn't go back. I've driven past the one down in San Diego countless times throughout my lifetime and have never had it down there. Probably don't plan to now unless its for the teppan. Maybe their teppan is better than the rest of their food? Hope so.

Been hooked since the first time. Food and especially sushi rolls are super delicious. Staff knows us and makes us always feel welcomed. Great family spot even for lil ones. We take our boys 1-3 here with no worries. Highly recommend.

We live down the street. We're here a few times a month. We always sit in the sushi section. The staff is friendly, the waitress and waiters are great. One waiter (I wish I knew his name) seems fairly newer he has a great personality and is always interacting and talking with my five year old. It's awesome. Mai is also very nice, even if she's not our waitress fr the night she always stops by to say hi and ask how we are :) The sushi is the best around, and its nice its close to home. Even before I lived in la Verne my family has been eating here on and off her for close to ten years. Alway fresh tasty food and pleasant workers. We love the New York New York roll, and seafood cheviche, because they are two items that are different and not really seen other places.

Horrible service! I called 5 days in advance for a reservation for a large party. Once our party arrived we were told 10-15 mins and we would be sat. 45 minutes later we're still not sat. Hungry kids and other family members wanting to leave already but we waited it out and gave them a chance. Food was ok, a bit over priced. BUt nothing worth writing home about. I'm giving you 2 stars for making us wait when we called in advanced. not to mention your staff lied and lied and lied about our expected wait time. Next time i'm going to Benihanas! Better service same quality food.

This place is the worst. Here's a helpful tip. Do not bother making reservations here. They don't actually reserve you a table and simply just wait until there is an open table available. We had a reservation and waited over 30 minutes for a table. Go to Benihana instead.

My best friend suggested this restaurant when we were desiring sushi. I was skeptical as to how good the sushi was -- I have not had sushi to eat in a long time, and the places I have been to around Stanford have been pretty bad. I decided to try the San Diego Roll because I doubt someone could really screw up California rolls with a few extra ingredients. I was pretty impressed by how tasty the rolls were! And to push my curiosity more, I tried my friend's suggestion of the spicy lobster roll, and it was AMAZING. Ah, so good. The rolls were fresh, and the service was great. Aside from the food, the atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant, and it is really not difficult to get to! And to make things better, the prices are decent. (:

My mom and I usually go to Japanese restaurants when we have lunch together. When I was a teenager, it was Niko Niko Sushi. Lately, though, it's Shogun, since Shogun is closer to my apartment. Shogun has a bento box lunch special, same as Niko Niko, but it is nowhere near as awesome. I got a 2 item combo, which comes with salad, miso soup, a tiny bit of fruit, and a cup of rice, plus 2 items. I chose vegetable tempura and the spicy tuna rolls. The sushi was good, but came with only 4 small pieces. The tempura was pretty great, though. And so was the passion tea I had. Service, however, totally subpar. The waitress seemed bored, flat, and downright irritated to be taking our order. A mumbling robot would have done a more professional job than the woman who was serving us. It's a bit pricey, and I've had better, but I guess I've also had worse. As far as local sushi goes, it gets the job done.

I have been to Shogun numerous times, but last week we decided to go on Valentine's Day. Of course, it was jam packed, but miraculously, we were seated immediately! I could not understand why people were waiting hours for a table in the grill area when they could have been seated at a table in the sushi bar area. We ordered the Lobster Roll ( officially my favorite), and the Crunchy Dragon Roll. Everything tasted great, but we did try a new appetizer that was nasty. It was some kind of baked lobster, but it more like a lobster souffle with a sour taste. Aside from that I was very pleased with our Sushi Rolls and our service.

I love coming to shogun! I come here more often than I check in. The prices are reasonable, and expected, for the sushi rolls you order. My favorite rolls hands down are the: New York New York Crunch Roll Las Vegas Roll I come here so often that the sushi chefs remember me by name now. Every time I come, I am either helped by Ye or Manuel. They always make the best perfectly made rolls and are always happy to serve you. The only complaint I have, and also why I am giving a 4 star rating is that some of the make servers are rude. As I am often a sushi eater, I have learned that all sushi restaurants have rude waiters so, it is to be expected. Other than that, overall GREAT experience!

  • Sheila M.

Have eaten both the Sushi and the Teppan here! Shogun popped my Sushi cherry (does anyone even use that expression anymore?!) Their sushi is always super delicious and fresh! I melt for the Crunchy Dragon roll! It has shrimp tempura at the top and Spicy Tuna mmmm Highly recommended! The Red Dragon roll is also very very good. I believe it has Asparagus, which is my favorite vegetable of all time, and also has Spicy Tuna. The Rainbow roll does take some getting used to as it is especially fishy! I usually really have to dip this one in some soy sauce to mask some fishy flavor (which shouldn't be happening, right?) Their Teppanyaki was also great. I've only had the Teriyaki Beef, but it was very tender and tasty and do always order it while there. The servers could get a little busy at dinner-time so the service could be a little slugish, but I think it's worth it!

I am a regular here and I don't know why I don't check in every time. I come here at least once a week and the food is excellent either side- restaurant or teppan. I believe he's the assistant manager, he's a guy with glasses and slick hair, is soooooo nice. He makes conversation with us each time and in all honesty he doesn't have to go above and beyond but he does. Karmin the teppan chef is hilarious, she is one of my favorite chefs there. Good food, great staff this is why we're here almost every week.

This place is decent, not the best. Service is acceptable but not memorable. Great place to come if you want decent teppan or sushi.

Nicely located in Pomona and with good staff. The concept is like Benihana, but lack of services. The food was done somewhat properly, and the time to get drinks was way too long. The cook who took care of our table was funny, and the food was done as we requested. Recommended, but just know it's not given for the price they should give more food.

This place has gone WAY down in my books. It took 20 mins to order drinks then 20 more mins to get salad and soup I had to get up and ask then the guy comes to start cooking at 10 pm we got here at 850 the bathroom was disgusting and it was not crowed our waitress was horrible the last time we came same service should have known better the waitress spilled on a friend myabi is way better and it's down the street

The food here is alright. It tasted a lot better before, don't know what happened. Also, the service went down the drain. The waiters don't even look at you when they pass by. It took more than 30 minutes to ask for my check. If you decide to come here, I'd suggest week day, lunch hour, sit at the bar for quicker service.

Good sushi, great company, cool environment. Had the red dragon roll, rainbow, spicy tuna hand roll, spicy salmon hand roll. Lobster roll is amazing! Sushi chef Ye is awesome!

  • Paul W.

The sushi is good, the seared ahi tuna salad is worth mentioning, hibachi style food is ok. My only complaint is that they charged me for the ice in my Hennessy the last time I ate here and I made them take the charge off! The service sucks here!

    (2)
  • Nicky R.

This place is expensive unless you go there for lunch or get their happy hour specials. It's almost $18 for the dinner chicken teriyaki entree. However, you do get a soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, and rice. They are similar to Benihana's where the chef entertains the customers as he cooks your meal. Pretty good but definitely can't go here too often because of the price.

  • Jason W.

This was my first restaurant were I had my first sushi experience thanks to my girlfriend. Shoguns is a nice small sushi spot which is ok with me, if you want a sushi spot with more room I'd say look elsewhere. The food here was exceptional. the lobster rolls are my favorite. I also tried the dragon rolls which were also great. There was this appetizer with lobster in it that was average. It was like lobster in some sort if pasty substance. other than that it's a nice and chill spot to go on a date. I went on valentines day and had a good time. If your in the Claremont area, I would try this place out.

After years of hearing about this place I decided to come today on father's day. At first glance this establishment looks nice. Decor is nice and overall clean. Waiter took a little long to get our drinks. Food came quickly. The reason I have 2 stars is because my daughter ordered the triple combo. Everything was good until she shared a California roll with my wife. When my wife took a bite there was a hair tangled in the roll. DAM! We called the waiter over and he seen the tangled hair. They credited my daughters meal. Needless to say I probably won't be back. Not a good first impression. 2nd stat was for them crediting my daughters meal. Rest of meal was paid at full price.

Normally I don't have an issue with this place. The food is great. The problem I've been having lately is that the posted opening time is 11:30 and we show up and the door is open but the host days they aren't open till 12. The host or whoever she is wasn't even apologetic about anything. Rude and unhelpful. If your going to adjust your open times you should post a notice. And then not be mean about it like it's the guests fault. However the food was especially good today. If this issue didn't happen I would have given 5 stars. But if your in hospitality you need to care more about your guest experience.

Clearly I need a break from Shogun, since they are starting to lack on consistency. My soup was lukewarm & there were ice chips in my salad. Not to mention the carrots in my salad tasted frozen. This has happened a few times and I disregarded the issues. But now with handy yelp I am way more serious about my foodie profession. Service was blah. Host was inviting & nice. Waitress was stone faced & appeared aggravated "assistant server" who delivered food, bill & receipt was helpful. Shogun also appears to be getting dirtier & dirtier. Guess Ill go back to Miyabis.

This place has the most amazing rolls!! We always order sushi to-go from here and I must say, I have not been disappointed. Take-out sushi is never the same as dining in the restaurant... but nevertheless, I have been satisfied each and every time (well, except for the time they forgot my miso soup, but took care of me the next time I came back). The Irish roll and Hot Night rolls are two of my personal favorites. Can't really comment on the decor or dining service since I've always gotten my food to-go. But it's tasty!! Prices are pretty decent at about $8-$11 for rolls.

This is one of those rare reviews where I wish I could give half-stars, because I'd totally do 4.5 for Shogun. The sushi is solid, with a pretty expansive set of options to choose from, though the quality can fluctuate a bit--sometimes I'm in sushi-bliss after a round there, while other times, I'm just pleased. (My bud from Buena Park, though, absolutely adores this place's sushi--he usually digs the Caterpillar Roll, since he's kind of an avocado junkie.) The drink options, if you're trying to avoid alcohol and late-night caffeine, are somewhat lacking, but what they have is, at least, decent quality. The teppan side of Shogun is an entirely different experience. To be blunt, it's probably one of my least favorite teppanyaki places I've visited--the food wasn't particularly flavorful, the chef seemed tired (but was still definitely trying, at least), and all in all I wasn't delighted in the way most teppan houses usually leave me. I still wouldn't say it outright sucked, but for something so (relatively) expensive, I usually expect more value than I felt I really received. My solution, rather than to grumpily huff my way out the door and never go there again, is to simply stick to the non-teppan side (yes, it is literally a separate side of the restaurant, spatially speaking). Everybody stays happy, with that arrangement, and that's cool by me. Sometimes I've even done takeout, and that went just fine, too.

Yeah I dig it here. I'm not that much of a sushi person too. But the show they do at the grills are awesome. The food is good It's just a good time here. Win.

Being a resident of La Verne has given me the opportunity to visit Shogun on a regular basis. I have experienced all of the dining options, teppan grill, a dining table or booth, and the sushi bar. This type of cuisine is normally higher than a burger joint. That being said, the grill can cost as much as $30 a person so it is definitely not something that should be visited everyday. The food at the grill is very good. Well seasoned, portion size is great, and an awesome variety of food to choose from. My only con would be that sometimes if your party isn't large enough to completely fill a table then they put you with unknown people. The sushi bar and dining is awesome. I love going for lunch. It's cheaper, not as crowded, and the waitresses seem to be more attentive to costumers. Great menu and the food is top notch. There is one MAJOR con for me. If you make a reservation and your entire party is not with you then they won't seat you. It irritates me because the late people of large parties hold up the whole group. This is why I gave the overall review a 4/5 stars. Bottom line: great food, service, and quality. You will definitely not be disappointed.

Super disappointed, I went here today and TOLD the chef that I have a shellfish allergy, what does he do? Puts my food right on top of the place where he JUST cooked shrimp without cleaning the grill.... I talked to the manager who was just like oh you don't have to pay not that I had received any food but salad. WELL DAMN STRAIGHT YOUR COOK COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF I HADN'T NOTICED. After the manager told us we were okay to go the waitress chased us outside screaming "you didn't pay your bill get back here you didn't pay" when I explained to her the manager said we could go, she had one of the other waitresses babysit us for like 5 mins when she went to find the manager to confirm I could leave ... I will not be coming back nor will i recommenced this place to anyone.

Best place ever! I go there for casual and business meetings. Love their food. Waaaaay better than Benihana! Dinners can be pricey so we try to get there before 3pm to enjoy same quality and quantity of food but at a fraction of the dinner cost with their lunch specials. Filet mignon is my favorite and I don't eat red meat often, lol. The scallops are great too, as long as the chef doesn't overcook them. I definitely recommend!

We came here for a company dinner. Apparently, we won some sort of contest we didn't even know about and needed to pick a place to blow the cash by our deadline. Funds were limited, deadline was approaching, majority rules and voila, we ended up at Shoguns. Let me begin by saying that it was my first time here. Why? Because I have gone out of my way to avoid places like this. Being that attendance was mandatory, I joined my co-workers for a night out. For some, having a chef prepare your meal right in front of you is jaw-dropping amazing. Personally, watching some guy flip his utensils under strobe lights and rolling an egg across the cook top and calling it an egg roll is just outright cheesy. I don't see how this blows some people away. I just don't. Putting aside my disdain for the tacky 'performance' that is before me, I stay optimistic about the food considering this place was packed when we showed up for our reservation. I ordered the shogun roll and the filet mignon with shrimp. I sampled my co-workers fried rice and mexican roll. Everything that came out was sub par in quality and plain flavorless. It would be wise to have the chefs focus more of their attention on the flavor of the food rather than trying to earn tips with their 'show.' Would I go back and give them another try? Hah, yeah right!

Came he last Friday afternoon for some lunch, and was happy to see they had some decent lunch specials. I ordered a combination lunch that came with a soft drink, and your choice of roll or shrimp tempura, all for 11 big ones. I decided I was hungry and figured a roll would be more filling than a shrimp tempura, wrong choice the shrimp tempura had 2 shrimps and 4 vegetables. My egg roll was nothing to sneeze at, especially with its delicious meat filling, but the shrimp looked like a better deal. For my sushi roll I went with the Dragon Roll, which while it was not the best, it was pretty good. I don't know why sushi places confetti tempura on their rolls, but this place does. All in all for $11 bucks with good service, I will definitely come back again, but get a different roll and get the shrimp tempura.

So I used to go to the one in Pasadena ALL THE TIME, but since my move over a year ago, I don't go there as much anymore since it's a bit out of ways for me now. However, this location is much easier to get to and I'm pretty sure that it's a lot closer. It's the same set up obviously - but the layout is different. It's in a strip mall for one. When my friend and I got there, the restaurant was quite empty. Something we weren't used to seeing, because even weeknights, the Pasadena location has quite a few people. While our cook was cooking (dude wearing the Calvin licence plate as a name tag) apparently the whole area with the grills cleared out. My friend and I and another couple were the only people in the whole section. Even the cook pointed out. Our cook was funny. Cheesy but funny. Service was great. I do think that they might have been having a slow night. They seemed to have more staff than necessary. Food was what I expected (and wanted).

Highly disappointed in their service. Made reservations for Christmas 6:30. Fifteen minutes past our reservation time and we are still sitting here waiting for our table. I don't understand why they take reservations but don't honor it. There is a reason why we make reservations. We have places we need to be. Manage your front of the house better

Shogun is one of my go-to sushi places when I'm in the area. It's affordable, has great quality fish rolls and dishes, clean, and always has great service!

Food taste great and rolls are fairly priced. I love the insane roll but I just tried their new new York new York roll. Was kinda dry but still tasted good. Service was great as usual. I go to school nearby so this is the go to sushi place for my friends and I.

I know I initially gave it 3 stars but after eating here more than a dozen times since I can honestly say I never get tired of coming here...(The staff meaning servers could be a little friendlier) but I realized this more when I recently went to Benihana's in Vegas and was sorely disappointed with that place and food. All I could think of was Shogun...

Best sushi on La Verne/San Dimas/Claremont area. Ask for Sean and Yey at the bar - great guys. Try the Shogun roll and Spicy Lobster roll. Come get $1 sushi during happy hour 3-6pm.

I came here for a dinner with friends, and I must say it was quite enjoyable. We sat at a table, but I liked the fact that they had the sushi conveyer belt system and the table-and-menu system. I tried a few of the rolls, the Lobster Roll, the Mexican Roll, and the Crunch roll. They were all quite good. The service was good, the atmosphere was great, and the dining room was bright and clean. This is a great place to get dinner with friends and have a good time!

Well first off, I work at this location :) For all those who say our servers and such are lazy, along with our chefs, I'd love for you to come to the back and check out exactly what we do. Our food is always fresh. Service is almost always friendly. And PS, if anyone finds their server rude, it's probably your fault. If you treat your servers nicely, they'll do the same. Rude, annoying customers are looked down upon. All in all, it's a nice restaurant for families and big parties. We celebrate many birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings here. That is all :)

Hubby and I were here tonight and we got a cozy booth within minutes of arriving at 7. We've new here several times prior but must say the service has proved since our last visit. Ordered sushi B special and it's worth the $18. Miso soup, salad, and sushi. Hubby's steak was sooo tender. Excellent service and Stoli tonic was perfect!

I am not normally a fan of chain restaurants but my sister and I wanted to get away from the kids and do a little light shopping and dinner while I was visiting her for vacation. Shogun was her choice and it was not a bad choice at all. Even though we had reservations, we still had to wait about 20 minutes. The place was packed. We were seated with two other parties for what I like to call the "food show". The chef was entertaining and moved the dinner along without it feeling rushed. We started out with a broth like soup with tofu then a salad with a weird thick orange dressing. Was not a big fan of the salad. Next the chef got into the details of constructing everyone's meals. I had a chicken and vegetable dish with white rice although I could have had fried rice. I think I may have missed the boat by not getting the fried rice because it looked devine. I capped off my dinner with a nice chardonnay. It was as uncomfortable as I would imagine sitting with strangers. I have never done this style of dining so I was a little concerned. Overall, good experience and good meal.

I have been trying to find a place closer to home to have sushi but I always end up coming back to Shogun. They load up your plate with tons of sushi for the same price other places give you just a few bites. My ultimate favorite thing to get is the Win Special. You HAVE to have it made by Win, naturally. Also the spicy lobster roll with soy paper. The soy paper is a must since this roll is so massive that if you get it with seaweed you're gonna end up embarrassing yourself in front of your date by clumsily spitting out half of your roll. If you're a sushi pro or even if you're one of those sushi fearing people who only order tempura veggies and California rolls, shogun is going to have something for everyone.

I have to say, this is a really nice looking sushi restaurant. I came here during happy hour and it was $1 per sushi (yellow tail, tuna, salmon...forgot the rest) didn't take us long to get seated, but we were seated at the table on the corner where the air conditioner was blowing crazy at us. My contacts were starting to get dry and we were freezing. definitely will return though but ask to not be seated there again.

Better than Bennihannas. I always tip$ the cook after the presentation at least $10. Drinks can be a tad weak, Id recommend ordering directly from the bar rather than from your hostess. STAY AWAY FROM THE SUSHI it is really really not good!

Usually I have nothing but good things to say about sho guns. This is after all the place I would choose if I was feeling like eating sushi. But this time I was not happy with the service if I could call it that. My husband's family and I went to eat there one Sunday afternoon and it was four adults and two kids. My nieces are 5 and 3 and didn't want sushi so we got them chipotle instead. When we asked the host if we can bring in the chipotle for them they refused us! The manager said that we cannot eat there if we bring outside food in. So, you turned us away because of two kids meals from another place. I would understand if it was an adult bringing food in but food for children? Please! I will not be coming to sho guns anymore, that proved to be horrible customer service and I refuse to be a customer of that location.

I was visiting a friend in the area and we were both craving sushi so he decided to bring me here. Him and his family have been frequenting this place for many years now. Our service was great as there were two waitresses checking on us constantly. We had the Philadelphia Roll, San Diego (?) Roll, and the Mexican Roll. All were good (not the best but it hits the spot) with your typical prices of ~$10 each. We also ordered a deep fried salmon dish which came with a dipping sauce (soy sauce, vinegar, lemon, garlic?) which was really good. I was really full after the rolls but I kept picking at the salmon just to eat the sauce. I don't know the name of the salmon dish as my friend just told our waitress "the deep fried salmon," lol, but it is a definite must try :D Just thinking about the sauce makes me hungry! hehe.. Food: 3 Service + Sauce: 1 Overall: 4 :)

i was a first timer last night, and the food was so good! the chicken and fried rice was amazing :) i didnt really like the soup it didn't have alot of flavor and was bland ,wasn't the best at all. the staff was very nice but took to long to sit us and to take our order and werent very busy. but was really good for my first time! i will be back.

Great lunch special comes with fruit, salad, soup and rice. You can't beat it for $10. The people are nice. My only complaint is that they take a while on take out orders. I am always in a rush so it's not a knock against them. I recommend calling in your take out order. The salmon is my favorite lunch special. Probably the nicest restaurant in La Verne.

I have always been a sushi lover, but if you want to stop loving sushi, you guys should come eat here. I took my boyfriend here for dinner because I wanted to treat him out for some sushi. I forgot what we ordered, but it had spicy tuna in it. It was good for a while, until i went back to his apartment. I started throwing up everywhere (sorry for the vivid detail) and it turned out that I got the stomach flu. After eating here, I haven't looked at, eaten, or smelled sushi since December. It was the worst experience of my life. I'm pretty sure that it was the spicy tuna that caused this. Besides that, the service here wasn't all that great. The only person who really seemed welcoming was the manager. The waitress wasn't nice at all.

My office is right across the street, so I bring my financial planning clients here all the time for lunch. The food is great, and at lunch time it isn't so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. This is also a fun place to come with friends on a Friday night, but be prepared for the noise!

Horrible service! We were given rainboe rolls without salmon. When we told the server that there was no salmon, she stated that it never comes with salmon. We thought it was strange but ate anyway. The young couple next to us said that this had happened before but that it was listed on the menu as having salmon. We asked to see the menu after dessert only to confirm that it came with salmon. The server brought a coffee plate with one piece of salmon. We asked for the manager who agreed that it had been wrong and inappropriate and comped the roll. We gave shogun a try but we'll stick to Little Tokyo in San Dimas were the sushi is only surpassed by the service. Too bad because Shogun looks very nice and has tons of potential!

This place is not that great. The chef we had seemed like it was the first time he had ever cooked. When asked if he was new he said no we were just his first customers. He kept dropping his cooking utensils and when he went to flip one of his utensils it went flying and almost hit my wife. He apologized and gave her extra fried rice. The food was so so. I have been to this place at another location and it was excellent. This location was not. I think it's a bad sign when your cook has a bandage on his finger. The price of the food was cheaper then Bennihanna. The waitress was very nice and was on it with our drink refills. However I don't think I will go back to this particular location.

This is my second favorite sushi restaurant! Their rolls are scrumptious! A note of caution: I find it hard to dine here during lunch if you are on a tight schedule, because you will be lucky to get out in an hour and a half. My favorite rolls are the crunchy roll (super crunchy w/ the best eel sauce I've ever had), and the rainbow roll. All of their sushi is super fresh!! I've never had anything I didn't like! The teppan grill is an amazing experience. Plan on spending at least $17-20 per meal at the grill, but the show and food are well worth the cost! Their teppan chef's are super entertaining and friendly! Even though I've seen their show over and over again, it never gets tiresome. If you plan to eat at the grill, they make you wait until they have enough people to fill the grill seats. Their paradise tea is the best I've ever had.

There are a few things I must emphasize about this place. First off, Shogun is a large restaurant in comparison to other Japanese restaurants that I have been to. Secondly, the place is clean and welcoming. Third, the servers are all nice and friendly. As there were three things that I noted for Shogun, there are also three ways you can experience Shogun. Teppan, Dining In, and Sushi Bar. Teppan: Located on the right side as soon as you pass the lounge, the Teppan side is really large and roomy .You will not be disappointed in the service that is provided. While the Teppan show here is pretty much the same in comparison to other Japanese Teppan restaurants, the chef are actually very entertaining and also can be quite comical especially if you and your group seem to be enjoying the show. The food is fairly decent and it is a nice place to have a more fancy style dinner with some friends. You will also be served y waitresses wearing kimonos which provides a more authentic air to the place. Dining In: While there are no waitresses here serving in kimonos, nevertheless the waiters and waitresses are still very friendly and come by every so often making sure you are satisfied and/or if you need a refill on drinks or even food. They serve various food here from sushi, sashimi, udon, dinner combinations, and more. While you can order the same meal at the sushi bar, I would recommend that you sit at the sushi bar if you are planning on eating sushi and rolls. Sushi Bar: Located right in the middle of the Dining Room, you can sit around the Sushi Stand Island where you see Sushi Chefs busily making various sushi, sashimi, and rolls for everyone. While there is a revolving belt that goes around the island, the chefs usually provide your order fresh to keep the quality of the food fresh. However every one in a while they do provide rolls and other things on the belt for you to enjoy some experience with the Revolving Sushi. Altogether this is a good place to go to and I would recommend the place if you are nearby.

3 stars for the food + 1 star for the entertainment = 4 stars. The food is decent. I generally just order a steak and fried rice which is never hard to mess up. Had some sushi the other day which was pretty darn good. I also have their drinks that come in the little figurines (geisha, warrior, sumo, castle) just because I like to display them in my living room as vases. The place is a bit of a drive for me, but we often do family dinners there. Be warned though that the seating is pretty awkward so it makes having decent conversations a bit difficult.

One of my boys is a regular there so the sushi peeps hook him up. Maybe this will be a biased review but all I gotta say is DELISH. Seared Salmon Roll........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........I am so craving it right now.... and they have this sweet shrimp and fish liver thing...haha if only i knew the names of these aquatic concoctions, i'd do justice to reviewing this place. it's bumpin'. go.

I sat at their rotating sushi bar and I was not very impressed with the sushi selection or taste actually. It was a little bland for my taste (yes, sushi could technically be considered bland) I suppose I just mean the quality didn't strike me as very fresh. I see a lot of families in the teppan section, perhaps that is better. The atmosphere is very nice though, the waitresses are in kimonos with their hair up, socks and sandals, the whole works. I dont think I'll be coming back though.

This was my first time at this location. I enjoy a good teppan meal. We tried Shogun for lunch today and everything was perfect! I had the filet lunch. It was cooked perfectly. I am very hard to Please when it comes to Japanese teppan grills. The portions were more than I expected. It felt like I was getting the dinner Serving size for the lunch price. I will definitely be back again soon. The show with the lights and Music was a welcome touch. Best teppan experience I have had!!

I'm already familiar with Shogun, so the experience was the same and the food was great. First time we had a female chef, loved her she was entertaining. Atmosphere is good too, better than the one in San Diego (and so is the parking lot, San Diego's is a death trap). But I knock this one down a star because despite a reservation, it took us a long time to be seated. Nevertheless, it's a dining experience everyone should try for themselves.

  • Joshua S.

So much better than Benihana! The menu is extensive, and the food is always good. If you're looking for teppanyakii, this is your spot. My only complaint is they wouldn't seat us without everyone there. We had 12 in our reservation and 1 person was running late. They said it would throw off the timing for tables. I understand, but then they tried to rush us into ordering 5 minutes after we sat down. I hadn't even looked at a menu.

Fresh Sushi. Fun Workers. Good Service = happy returning customer! -Sushi is fresh! They don't add too much sauce or garnish so you can actually taste the fish! -Service is good! Usually quick and friendly! -Most workers have a great sense of humor and really make you feel welcome! -Prices are ok, nothing too expensive and nothing too cheap. -Teppan side is super fun! They do perform the same ol teppan tricks, but most the chefs are sharp and witty Only bad things to note: -No happy hour for drinks -Chefs can't drink with you Favorite Dishes: -Spicy Lobster Roll -Heart Attack -Win's Special Overall, I am always a satisfied customer when I come here! P.S - ask any of the sushi chefs to make you their own special, they will blow you away!

We've been coming here for years, from great sushi to well-prepared teppan. Recently we had a billing error that was smoothly handled by our waitress Rita and manager Jason. So it's worth remembering it's also the people that really make a place special. Jason and Rita, thanks. We'll keep coming back.

One of my favorite places to go and I am disappointed. We sat at the sushi bar and got a great view of the chef dipping his fingers into the bottles of sauce as another chef watched, licking them clean and repeating with a few of the other bottles. He then ran the licked finger around the container of dressing to clean off the excess spillage. After he sneezed into his arm and then onto the counter I waited to see if he would wash his hands. NO, he started to make my roll with his licked upon sneezed upon hands. DONE! There is no reason he could not have washed up with the sink that is 2ft from him in his bar quarters. I told the host, who apologized but didn't seem concerned. I told the waitress but she said just put your money for the drinks on the table. Where was the manager? I'm sure this is common practice that we dont have the privelege of seeing, but to watch this happen as though I was in his kitchen at home was more than I could stomach. Shame on you Shogun.

Great vibe, BAD SUSHI. Ok well maybe I'm being a little harsh abou the fish, but the food here really is unmemorable. Ive had one teppan style meal, which was simply ok and have had sushi more than a few times. The sushi is served on a rotating conveyer belt (need I say more). I like coming here because the hot chicks from La Verne (all 4 of them) seem to eat here. The prices are also cheap.

One Star since they think they can serve rotten food and get away with it. I ordered Giant Clam, a pretty expensive delicacy. I asked the sushi chef if they had it. He hesitated then replied yes. Which already got me thinking. When it came out it was dark. I have had this many times at have never seen this as the color it was at Shogun. What made me angry the most was they tried to hide the giant clam with a load of wasabi under it. I eat spicy all day. I have taken peppers with scoville levels well above 600,000 (Google Scoville for levels of spices) so I can take wasabi no problem. They added so much wasabi to the point where all flavor was lost. (to elaborate, one piece made me tear up) They did this because the giant clam was not fresh at all. The fact that they this makes me angry. Why would one serve old food to some one. As a chef, you are what you eat, and obviously they are CRAP. I told him i wasn't pleased, (i should have hopped over the counter and bully beat down his face). He still charged me full price. Thanks... Lets get Started... - Location: Good - Food: If they are willing to do what they did above that one time...it makes me wonder what else they will do, OR HAVE DONE! Gross.... - Sanitation: wasn't really paying attention - Atmosphere: Pretty Chill - Bar: didn't drink, i had tea...i think they charged me for tea... - Overall: I think i saw an In and Out across the street. Lets go there!

My family has always loved sushi, but we were a little turned off by the big-name places out in LA and Hollywood, restaurants that give you little sushi for a lot of money. Living in the area, we first came to Shogun on CHRISTMAS DAY (yes, they were even open on Christmas). It had just opened, and we were treated with excellent service and AMAZING sushi! Since then, we have come back at least once or so a month, we've made friends with the waiters, and we recommend it to everyone we know! We absolutely love the spicy tuna and hungry boy rolls, and their appetizers and grilled food is fantastic! Now, if only this place was in LA! :)

i've never experienced the grill, just the sushi side. It is a favorite of my family. It leaves people from the age of two to seventy happy. The baby octopus is a favorite, but make sure to eat it quickly, it's not as good when it cools. I'm in favor of the udon there. Good sushi. The yellowtail and sweet shrimp are recommended. The rolls are what they do best. They have a deal for a free beer for everyone two rolls you order. Kamakazi roll, san diego roll, rainbow roll were all great. The service has always been excellent. They know how to handle tables with kids.

The food here is only surpassed by the service. My boyfriend and I both got rolls of sushi and a gyoza appetizers. The fish was INCREDIBLY FRESH, the gyoza was mouth watering. Our waitress never let our drinks get half empty before filling them back up. It was such a pleasant experience. And the selection of rolls was refreshing! Note: we didn't sit at the conveyor belt sushi bar. I can't wait to go here again!

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed Shogun on Foothill Blvd. If you haven't read any of the other reviews yet, Shogun's is a teppanyaki restaurant, which is a style of Japanese cuisine that presents a very lively, skilled cooking presentation, where the chef juggles his cooking utensils, & puts on a show while cooking your food. Read more about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Te… Our party of 12 had reservations, so seating was not an issue -- we sat towards the back of the house, which had a lot of room. The layout of the house was clean & The lunch menu is priced well; for $10-$13 off their Lunch Entree section, you get miso soup or salad w/ dressing (I tried both, and found each to be delicious... and I'm not a big vegetable fan by nature), steamed rice, and the main meal itself. For $2.00, you can request fried rice -- many at our table ordered fried rice, which added a good load of entertainment to the meal -- our Chef's name was Eric... he formed a heart out of the fried rice & made it beat -- then added a fire element to the center of it & called it "heart burn." The Seafood combination (with shrimp, scallops, and calamari) was cooked well -- I cleaned the plate, including the mixed veggies... I wasn't crazy about their thousand island dressing (?) or their teriyaki sauce, but the remainder of the food was great. Despite the fact that we had 12 people seated around the grill, all meals were cooked in a very timely manner. We all found Eric to be very funny & entertaining -- without a doubt he put on a good show, & seemed to really enjoy what he was doing (he didn't look stiff, or forced to cook -- he was actually very animated throughout the entire presentation; his onion volcano steamed/smoked very noticeably & movements were very solid as well). The strobe lights added a strange, but nonetheless funny element to the show. The service in general was great; I ordered a green iced tea in addition to the entree-- without even asking, our waitress, Fera, always replenished the glass if I was anywhere close to finishing my tea... that glass must have been refilled a good three times, so for $3.00, I felt like I got my money's worth. We also mentioned that one of our friends was allergic to shellfish, so Eric made sure to cook all the chicken & beef first before cooking any seafood. The only reason why I'm not giving them 5-stars is because I don't think I would want to eat there after 3:00PM -- for the same meal that I got for $15, I would have to pay upwards of $30 if I ate after lunch (the Seafood Combination after 3:00PM is $25+). I haven't gone to a Benihana's in quite some time, but I'm going to assume the pricing is still pretty high if you're watching your budget. For three meals, plus gratuity, it came under $50 -- which, in my opinion, wasn't that bad. Note: if you have a large group, they can only split the check four ways, so bring cash, or be prepared to pay for more than just yourself if you're the type that brings plastic. I don't carry cash on me, so my friends ended up giving me whatever amount they would have seen on the menu, which means I paid for the tax & tip. You were forewarned! All in all, if you're looking for a good time with your friends, want to impress someone on a first date, or just want some fun entertainment with your food -- try these guys out!

I came here about 2 weeks ago with my deptartment from work for a lunch. My boss was treating us out. The only thing that went wrong was that when we ordered our drinks, I along with a few others in my department ordered sprite. The first batch of sprite we got was really bad.. like watered down, so we told the waitress about that problem and she fixed it right away. It was just that something needed to be changed on the machine but she was very polite about it. Our cook was amazing, great cook, kept us entertained. Cracked a lot of jokes. He seemed super serious as he was cooking but he was still able to keep us entertained in the sarcastic funny way. There were also a lot of sexual innuendoes in his jokes which made it more entertaining. He was able to engage his entire audience which made the lunch even more fun. I would definitely come back and request for that cook we had. I didn't get his name, but he wore a black robe. I think the other chefs had on red ones or something, so our chef definitely stood out. I have no complaints with the food, it was all delicious :)

My sister and I love Shogun in La Verne. They do classic nigiri well. I love mackerel so am pleased when it comes with a little bit of shoga on top. When they are in season, the oyster shooters are super tasty, complete with a little pickled carrot and tobiko. They also have a lot of weird Americanized rolls and creations that are fairly tasty. The langostino roll is pretty good. I am intrigued by the Japanese burrito. Always good sushi for purists, newbies and the adventurous.

I love shogun. I'd worked here 2 years ago & I always miss to coming back. People here in Shogun are awesome, even I dont work there anymore when I went there to eat I still experience an incredible food & service. They have varieties of sushi & rolls. The grills are tasty, especially when I order Fillet Mignon, Scallop, Shrimp and fried rice. Not to forget Seared Salmon Roll...ooohh Im craving it!! I'd seen tons of the teppan show when I worked there, but still Shogun are great place to celebrate birthdays. Beside the teppan show, the server will gather & sing for you in a Japanese happy songs with tamborine.

Have been to shogun numerous times for lunch and dinner including the teppan side and sushi side. Always had great service. Tonight I was blown away on the sushi side with horrible service. Husband and I sat at table waitress came up and asked for drink orders. We both added for drinks from bar. Me crown and ginger ale husband mecallun 12. She had no idea about these drinks comes back 10 minutes later without my drink and tells my husband there is no mecallum. Husband asks for other scotch drinks. She has no idea comes back 10 minutes later and tells us the selection of scotch. Finally both drinks come to table my husbands in a shot glass which is totally unacceptable and my drink. Take sip of mine and tastes horrible! Have no idea what this bartender poured! Waitress comes back tell her drink is unacceptable and brings me Sachi. She takes order husband orders two meal dinner either two kinds of sushi. Which comes with soup and salad. Also orders fried rice instead of white. I order house Salad and bcs roll. Husbands salad and soup comes out nothing for me. Watch him eat soup and salad, couldn't catch waitress eye. Next thing you know his entree comes out and I have nothing. Asked her to give me my salad. She brings it out and I eat it while husband eats entree. Husband finishes entree and I still have not been served my meal. Once again get waitress attention tell her I have no food then tells me it will be right up. Catch her asking sushi chefs to put in my order. After another twenty minutes I tell her I am done and don't want food since husband done twenty minutes earlier. She apologizes and I see a manager come out but he never approached us to apologize and still charged my husband his whole meal. We were so disappointed. Have always loved this place but now appalled by this service!

I went to the Teppan show. The Chef was funny and entertaining. His name was Albert, so some authenticity was lost. The food was good, not orgasmic, but it is an experience and I had fun. I would say the fried rice was the highlight of the meal. We had to sit next to strangers, which I normally frown upon because I do not care for strangers, but he was engaging and enhanced the experience. The ambiance is good. The waitress was attentive, but I would not characterize her as friendly or particularly engaging. Sake bombs were involved with the meal, so that must be taken into account when reading this review. I would go back with the right group of people because it is fun, but I would not go back solely because of the food.

I really didn't know what I was thinking... Note to self, when going to a Teppan Grill Restaurant, EAT FROM THE GRILL! My family decided to have lunch here, and it was a complete disaster. *The miso soup was cold *The sushi was not fresh *The service was terrible I have never given this low of a rating bc most of my restaurant experiences are based off of fellow yelper's recommendations, but we decided to go here because it was close to the movie theater. I will go to this place again and eat at the teppan grill so that I can supply a better review.

My fiance' and I love sushi and we've been to tons of places around La Verne. We keep finding ourselves coming back to Shogun because 1) it's close to our house, 2) the sushi is decent for the price and tasty. It's nothing fancy, just good, straight forward sushi. 3) the sushi chef's are fun and friendly. However, we've had severely mixed feelings about the rest of the experience. Half of the time we show up after 8 the restaurant it's closed early despite their sign saying otherwise - and nearly all of the time we end up with rude servers (in the sushi bar) who seem utterly frustrated that they are being asked to take your order (at any time of the day). Now I've served my fair share of tables in the past, but I've never encountered a group of servers with such contempt for their jobs. Cmon guys, smile a little! Finally - the grill section of the restaurant is solid. Again - nothing that will blow your mind, but it's good food - the chef's always seem to be having fun, and it's reasonably priced.

It's a teppan place so I should have known better... Even when ordering a vegetarian dish, the use the same cooking utensils. They cooked and cut the chicken and steak then moved on to my veggies. I could see pieces of meat mixed with my food. Wish they would have cooked the vegetables first, not last. I was horrified and didn't eat. Sucks because the veggie meal was $20!!

Came here with the boyfriend and his family. They are regulars of this restaurant and the boyfriend has mentioned to me many times about the spicy lobster rolls and the teppanyaki here. I was excited because I haven't had any teppan since coming to LA. The interior design is surprisingly great considering it's located in a stripped mall kind of place. The restaurant seemed to be divided into the sushi section and teppan section. Teppan tables were really crowded but the sushi bar was pretty quiet. They also have a bar that serves cocktails. We started off with some sushi. I ordered the BSC (baked scallop on top of Cali roll) and boyfriend ordered the spicy lobster roll (and was teased by the family because he orders the same roll every time). The Sushis were really really good. Big portions and flavorful. Best sushi I've had here, and priced much more reasonable than Kastuya, where we usually visit. The teppan meals came with a soup, a salad and rice ($2 more for fried rice). The soup was refreshingly NOT miso soup, but a clear onion soup. It was pretty good. Th salad average, like many other teppan meal salads. I loved the whole teppan experience. The chef makes the meal delicious and entertaining at the same time. Every course he cooked there was a joke that came with it. There's also buttons on the teppan that triggers sound effects when he was mraking the onion volcano and the train (LOL). I noticed that every teppan chef brought props with them to perform tricks with. Now the teppan food. I feel like there could be more flavor variation. A lot of it is just teriyaki sauce and soy sauce, which gets a little old, despite the fact that they're both very tasty sauces. I loved my fillet mignon which was cooked medium rare, just the way I liked it, and was juicy and tender. I tried my boyfriend's lobster which was really tasty too. We also ordered dessert, the fried banana. It was a great ending to the meal and we left with a really really full and satisfied stomach :)

I haven't had the teppan, it's not really my thing. I've been here 3x now, twice on Friday nights. If you eat on the sushi side, there's barely a wait. The crowd is for teppan. The sushi is pretty good, I think all the rolls are less than $10. They have a pretty good selection of rolls too and if you sit at the sushi bar the service is pretty quick. If you sit at the table though, service can kind of lag. I don't know about the teppan side but the sushi side is pretty good. But one thing i REALLY DON'T LIKE is that they serve your miso soup with a silver spoon. NOT legit. Otherwise, I really like the sushi/rolls.

MY FAVORITE!! this is the best sushi anywhere... i am a regular here and the sushi chefs hook it up! i recommend the sushi bar, order the vegas roll and the albacore sushi (the nigiri, ponzu sauce is awesome), TO DIE FOR!! Winn, Sean, and Ye are all amazing chefs and they are soo friendly. also, the sake sampler is great, they have awesome Plum Sake! Don't listen to these bad reviewers, they must have been having a bad day cause i have been to many sushi places (notice i'm from LA so there's one in every block) and the price and taste here can't be beat!!! YAY SHOGUN, KEEP IT UP!!!

We usually eat at the sushi bar. Haven't tried the Teppan. The sushi is pretty good. It's definitely 10 times better than the place across the street. My kids order the chicken teriyaki, which is average tasting. We always order the salmon skin roll and spicy scallop roll. They're really good! As for the service, the sushi chefs are friendly and they give great service. I had to give 3 stars because I find the service of one particular waitress terrible. We've had her wait on us on several occasions. She keeps forgetting to check on us to see if we need refills or anything else. Unfortunately, her poor service brings down my rating. So basically good sushi, not so great service. We'll still go back for the sushi. Update: We've been back since that day of bad service. We ended up with the same waitress in the beginning. Maybe she read my review or sensed my disappointment, because after taking our drink orders, a different waiter served us. After seeing how hard he was working, I realized that maybe the restaurant is just short staffed and they can't keep up with the number of customers. I bumped up my rating to 4 stars for the hard working waiter. I love the Salmon Skin Salad. It's excellent!

I've eaten hear about three times the first two times were rather pleasent. I had the teppan grill the cook was cool. But the third time was kinda wack the two girls who act as greeters gotta go they were rude and acted like they were doing me and my party a favor by letting us eat there. They were so rude we just left and decided to eat at the Green Burrito in the same parking lot.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! this place is so good.there rolls are awesome. and you can always have a seat there, the grills are good and put on a better show than benihanas, and cheaper too.nice clean place and always room to bring a group of people!

This is the place to go when you are in the area and want some good quality sushi at an affordable price. One of the good things is that they have a huge choice of vegetarian items so that those who don't eat fish can eat here too. The teppan part is good for families and groups and if you have little ones they will enjoy the show put on by the chefs

Ate there twice. both times at the grill and wasnt bad. Not the best but not bad. Second time we had the lobster handrolls and damn they were good, they even give you another handful of the lobster on the plate.

I love Shogun! The teppan side is good. They have a lot of different selections and combinations. Plus they are very friendly and the show they put on is funny. I love the fried rice. And I have to say their Green Tea Ice Cream is the BEST! As for the Sushi on the other side. It's good. The Las Vegas roll is good and so is the Crunchy Roll. I do prefer the Teppan side though. I give the Teppan side 4-5 stars and the Sushi Bar side only 3.

So I have to say that this Shogun is my official favorite. Its a little newer and a little nicer and the chefs put on one hell of a spectacular show! I loved the food and the waitresses were attentive and kind. When our sushi appetizer came out late she was apologetic and our drinks never once ran out. Definite thumbs up :)

Definately my favorite place in the area to get sushi. Always have the "it" sports games on and it definately is a very "happening" place. The Tepan grill is great. If you are just interested in getting in, having some good food, and leaving- you can do that as well. The prices are a little higher than some of the places in the area but the environment and service really seems to make up for that!

I absolutely loooove shogun! I first went there 2 yrs ago and i probably go about twice a month. I go to the grill section of the restaurant, so it can get a bit pricey. they have prices for every budget, but i have to say that my favorite is their filet mignon. their scallops are juicy and tender. delicious! I have brought many many friends to this place and they have all loved it. the show is great too. i especially love the only girl chef. she is super hilarious. and Tom is really funny too. one of the Mexican guys, a heavy-set fellow is not entertaining. If Britney is your server, beware, she doesnt always know the prices of the alcoholic drinks. A good thing about this place is that for lunch, all the food is half priced, but its only til 3 so hurry!

Whenever I'm near freeways I don't recognize I tend to panic. The 57? The 210? The 71??? Are we really in the "909"???? Not that far from the 10 (thank goodness!) is a restaurant located in a strip mall. I didn't even know this place existed but we were desperate to find somewhere decent to take my older sister on her birthday. Why La Verne? My sister moved to Pomona and there's nothing in Pomona. Nothing. My other sister had been to the Shogun in Pasadena. So we gave it a try. Its kind of like Benihana. You get a personal chef that makes a show out of your meal. Ours was pretty cool, I liked the sound effects and the onion volcano. It was only 3 of us and fortunately we didn't have to share our table with another group. The waitress was annoyingly too nice. As soon as she noticed my cup half full/half empty she refilled it. She also kept checking on us if we were ok. For the 6th time, yes everything was ok!!! I didn't say it but I sure wanted to. I ordered the sushi appetizer and the shrimp yakisoba. Both were just ok. I liked my appetizer better than the entree. Overall this place is a good to celebrate any occasion. I wouldn't go back to this particular location since its way out of my way.

Shogun has teppan and sushi. If you are into teppan then I think you will like it here. Depending on the chef, the "show" can be somewhat entertaining, if not corny. The food itself is decent. Plus there is a cute waitress who works the teppan area (not that I notice that sort of thing). If you are more of a sushi fan, then Shogun is serviceable. Nothing special in my opinion, w/the exception of the sashimi salad, which I think is pretty good. The special rolls are ok, not bad, but again, nothing special.

If your palate has ever experienced quality you will quickly see this place is not!!! I ordered the Lobster with my Teppan and it was a joke, they don't even use real lobster, they use some sort of Slip lobster which anyone who knows food knows it's not a real lobster. If you like Panda express, you will love this place.

Delicious! Sushi is awesome! Try the mexican roll and la verne roll they are soooo good. The teppan side is amazazazing! Get a side of dynamite if you like spicy food with your order the scallops and shrimp are sooooooooooooooo good. YUM!

well, their sushi is real cheap, but then you can tell it's not fresh, my fd who work there told me that most of the fish they use is fozen, some of them are not even real (Tuna). Sorry to say that, but their service is not that great either. Teppan is good, but I will suggest not to have sushi if you wanna go there.

I really like how this place is setup. The Sushi is great but I love the experience of eating at Teppan. The idea of a Chef come out and cook for you just the way you want it and to have some one to drink with you if you don't want to drink alone is awesome. I love my steak rare and when eat it right of the grill is so delicious. I will go back again. Thank you Shogun!

This is my first review for a restaurant, and I'm extremely disappointed. A friend from my husband's work had recommended this place since he heard that we had been looking for the Conveyor Belt Sushi (Kaiten Sushi). My husband, my sister, and I were so excited to try out this restaurant knowing they had Kaiten Sushi. But, they didn't actually have the sushi plate going around on the Conveyor Belt. You had to order with the chef preparing your food. That was fine, because our sushi chef was great, but let me tell you the service was HORRID! This was the first time, I've ever experience such horrible service. Our sushi chef was the ONLY one who kept checking up on us asking "Is everything okay?" "Did you need anything?" "Tell me if you need anything." Not ONCE did the waitress come by and ask us that. The 2 "so-called" waitresses were busy serving a larger table next to the Conveyor Belt, and it appeared they were regulars at this restaurant. Not only were we ignored, but we had to wait for service. We bared with it because of our nice sushi chef. The sushi was ok, I've had better... We ordered Egg, Tuna, Spicy Tuna, Cucumber, Salmon. The Spider Roll was ok. We also ordered their Gyoza, but I was disappointed.. I've had better Gyoza at a Ramen restaurant. At the end of dinner, we had asked for the check which the waitress gave to us, and we had put our credit card in there. We waited over 10 MINUTES for her to return the tab for us to sign. Another sushi chef approached us when he saw our hand, and asked "Did you want the check?" I replied "No, I gave her the check a while ago." So he calls out to the chef to ask for the bill, and he was chatting with the MANAGER. Not only did the manager not do anything about it, but we waited an additional 5 minutes to get the check back. With such horrible NO service at all, we put a Big FAT $0 tip on the tab. As we walk away, the "so-called" waitress who had pretended to serve us, picks up the tab, looks into it and had the nerve to say "NUH UH!!" Our sushi chef over heard it, and walked over to her. He looked at the bill and let's out a big 'ol laugh and told the other sushi chef as both laughed away because he had received a $20 tip. NEVER AGAIN!! I'm just too morbidly disappointed. Our sushi chef was so nice, but because of the service I will never come here ever again nor will I recommend this place to anyone else. We were planning on recommending this place to my husband's boss. But I'm sorry, the only recommendation I would give is to NOT go to this place. By the way, we weren't having a bad day because we were actually excited to come here. And it's because some of you are regulars, you can't justify that by saying that we're bad reviewers because we had a bad day. Also, even if we weren't regulars we could've at least been treated like customers.

Went for lunch, and we sat at the grill. I guess it was amateur hour, as the chef we got had no game. Dropped spatula, only a sputtering volcano, and overcooked steak. Overall the food was ok, but could have been priced better. Oh wait, my sister in law paid for it, so I guess I can't complain about that deal. Hard to imagine it's one of her favorite restaurants.

I love this Shogun! Reminds me of good times with the girls at the office. The food is really tasty and their lunch specials are a great value for the quality and amount of food you get. They also have lunch specials on Saturdays (don't know about Sundays), which is great because many places only have them on weekdays. The Hibachi Filet Mignon with fried rice is always a solid choice. They always cook it exactly how you want it. At $12.95, this is one of the pricier lunch options and I always feel like I'm ripping them off at that price for that good food. The funny thing about this place is that it's supposed to be Japanese cuisine and ambiance, but they always have English pop music like Rihanna playing in the background. That's just about the only thing I would change about this place. I need a little Asian music to get more into the ambiance. This place may be comparable to Tokyo Wako in some ways, but the rice is way better here because they actually put chicken in it and the service is way friendlier.

I love that this place has teppan, sushi, and other typical Japanese fare in one place. The teppan grill is okay. The food is decent and the show is what you would typically expect, but I prefer Mori's in Glendale. As for the sushi rolls, I LOVE THE NEW YORK, NEW YORK roll! I am convinced that this roll is the perfect food and God's gift to mankind: crab, shrimp, avocado, rice, AND perfectly cooked steak all rolled into one. The moment I put that roll in my mouth, it was like I'd died and gone to heaven. Every piece of that magnificent roll made my taste buds tingle happily in my mouth. The BSC roll is decent, but there are times when they just put way too much mayo. Shogun in La Verne is a dependable place to go to when you want your fill of some decent Japanese food. Aside from the fact that the food is decent, it is also extremely convenient for me given that I live about 5 blocks away. Lord knows this is where I blow my money every pay day...

Went here for lunch. My friend almost reached for the plastic food displays that swirl pass you as your sit at the sushi bar. We shared the a lunch special and he also ordered a seafood salad. The lunch special was typical with a choice of soup or salad. The portions were decent enough for two. My friend's seafood salad was no big WOW! He in fact said that it could've had substantially more in it.

I've been to this place many times for sushi and just one time for teppan. The chefs are pretty cool and sushi was decently priced. I got to say the uni was pretty tasty as well as the blue fin. As for the teppan.. meh... just like other teppan places.... pretty good show that you would expect at most places so nothing too spectacular. Cool place to bring a date, I would recommend the teppan side for date, especially if he/she has never been to Teppan before...

Shogun was the very first place I've ever had sushi, so it holds a special place in my heart. If you've never had sushi before, I suggest the hungry roll. It's spicy tuna dipped in tempura with a YUMMY sauce. It's really good for noobs. The rainbow roll is good too because you get to try a few different types of fish. But my absolute favorite is the New York, New York roll. It has beef, which may seem really weird, but it's so delicious. It's cooked just perfectly, so juicy and so tasty! I've never had a better roll anywhere. The other Japanese food was good too, but I just haven't eaten it in a long time since I'm a sushi addict now. The teppan grill area is really good, lots of fun for the whole family, but a bit expensive. Also, a lot of people (mostly my Asian friends) complain about smelling like food after the teppan, but it's really unavoidable. Overall, it's a really good restaurant, and I don't feel like it's overpriced. I don't live in the area anymore, but anytime I go back to Glendora, my friends and I always make a trip there. Delicious!

I've ate here about 4 or 5 times @ sushi bar and table on sushi side. my favorites are the crazy boy roll and the spider roll but the best so far is oceans 3 which is not on the menu. It's a roll wrapped in cucumber instead or rice and seaweed and has salmon, tuna, albacore and asparagus. They also have a full bar and is not too pricey. As for the service, the sushi chefs are always friendly and give better service than the waitresses. I would definitely go there again.

The truth is right here , so stop searching. I give four stars because your experience depends on your chef Ton from Tailand is the best ask for him! You will never be board , if your on a date its great , group of friends even better, from sake bombs to yegger you can't go wrong . The best part is having a few with the chef that is right there putting on a show for you! Say good bye to uncle benny and come join the SHO !

Recently discovered this place after searching for a nearby teppan grill restaurant. I read the reviews and we were on our way. Yes,its just like Benihanas but with better sushi. However, their vegetable portions are just not as large as I'm used to. They have a kids menu, which I appreciate. They seems to have a great selection of sushi, I tried some kind of spicy mexi roll and was very pleased. I like their selections on ice tea and the staff seems to be very nice. Just wish they wouldn't skimp on the veggies. It gets pretty expensive for dinner so if you want to save some dough, go for lunch.

This review is for the sushi side of the restaurant since I eat here more than I do on the teppan side. Oh my goodness, this place has the best sushi that the inland empire has to offer. NO JOKE. All the sushi guys are very giving in their portion size. The fish here is always fresh, and the rolls here are huge! They're always attentive, and they all speak great English, so you won't have to worry on whether or not the sushi guy get what you're saying, or fear that they will spit in your food because you're being difficult by customizing your roll like crazy!-- sometimes, my sister customizes her rolls, and they know what's up! My favorites here are : spicy scallop hand rolls, albacore delight , white hawaiian, lobster roll and many others! The spicy scallop here is the best, and i've been to many sushi places in San Diego and no other sushi place in San Diego compares to the quality that SHO GUN has- I know they have a few locations in SD as well, and i've been to the one in Kearny Mesa, and that place is good as well, but for some reason I think this location is the BEST. I will have to come back to yelp and confirm when I try their other locations :) My favorite employees here are Yee and Yoshi- always attentive, they give great service, and i'm happy every time I leave this place! I would give this place a try if you're in the area. If you need help with what to order, the sushi guys will take care of you!

I've only been here during the early weekday hours. Service was good and the sushi chefs were friendly. The menu at the bar has many different rolls to choose from. It's almost overwhelming trying to decide what to get. I definitely recommend the spicy lobster roll. Yummmmm.

Shogun is a huge Japanese restaurant with a Teppan option, a revolving sushi option, and a regular dining option. IMHO the BEST sushi in the area, especially when you consider the cost of the sushi and the quality that you get. Teppan: I haven't had Teppan in a long time, because quite honestly, it's the same show and same food at most place. The last time I had teppan at Shogun, it was a little more entertaining and had a little more variety than the other teppan places I have been too. The food is also consistently good and well mixed. Sushi bar: They have replaced most of the plates on the revolving sushi bar with plastic replicas. In my opinion, this is much better as it results in a more sanitary sushi bar (see other yelpers review of Fat Fish in LA. . . fruit flies. . . ek!!) This also means that even when there aren't that many people around, you can get "revolving sushi" without wondering how long it has been sitting there. Occasionally they do put unique items on the revolving area such as tiny live crabs. Regular dining: Sushi is solid. Not the best ever, but you can depend on not ever getting crappy sushi at Shogun.(does that make sense?) Their chicken karrage is one of the best I have ever had. If you do have a craving for Sushi, try to go at lunch, they have a new lunch menu insert with lots of options. Most of them even come with free soda! If you get to be a regular, service is amazing ^^

I would give 4 stars, but this place has some major price inconsistencies compared to the Pasadena location. Otherwise, the restaurant is clean, the sushi chefs are fastidious and courteous, although sometimes the waitresses could be faster (especially on a slow night). I do miss being greeted by first name like at the Pasadena location, despite the fact that I would never frequent the establishment more than three times a month.

We came here for sushi, sat down, and there is a conveyor belt with sushi and various foods going around on it. Our waitress did not explain that the food on the conveyor belt wasn't for consumption. I've only been to a few restaurants with conveyor belt sushi, but you're supposed to take the sushi off the belt and eat it, and they count your plates to charge you. Well, we ended up eating one of the sushi. Still the waitress or the chefs said nothing to us. We went to grab something else, and it was plastic food!!!! That's when I realized that you're not supposed to eat the food off the belt. I guess they use it for advertising what to order. Don't know how long the sushi was revolving on that belt, but my stomach didn't feel too great when I got home which could have been all psychological. The other sushi we ate wasn't that great. We won't be going back for sushi. We've been there for their teppan grill, and it was OK,cheaper than Benihana, but a little too salty for me.

I used to be turned off by sushi. But a friend of mine introduced me to sushi by taking me to Fukuya's across the street, and Shogun. When I was in college, Shogun was my go-to place when I had that killer sushi craving. I always asked to be seated at the sushi bar at Shogun's, and I guess the chefs started to recognize me because I always received a loud welcome by whatever they say in Japanese (sorry, I can't understand let alone spell it, but I always smiled when they did it). I'm sure that's standard for sushi restaurants, but to date, they have been the loudest sushi chefs I've encountered. Every person I took with me to Shogun's loved it and helped me stack up towers of little plates, enjoying every bite. By the end of the night, so what if our bill totaled a little under $100 between two people, the sushi was worth it. Ever since I graduated and moved back home, Shogun's extensive and picturesque sushi menu is the one I compare other sushi places to. I'm not a huge fan of hot/spicy, but one of my favorite rolls is the spicy scallop. And the dynamite. I hope they expand north.

We love going here for birthdays and large get togethers. The food is never a disappointment and neither is the show. The last time we went, we sat with a group of regulars that had Tom as a chef (he was requested). He gave the best show and deserves to be nominated to compete on the food network's Top Teppan Chef challenge. The sushi is great but my favorite here is the new york steak w/ seafood in spicy dynamite sauce.

Wait, is this the right Shogun? After seeing all these bad reviews, I ponder if my judgment of sushi is adequate because this place was the best sushi I've had in a while. The fish tasted very fresh! And I've been here twice. Service was fast...maybe too fast. So fast that I blinked and our sushi was there. I Dream of Jeannie?

My review is for the Teppanyaki grill. I have never dined at the sushi section of the restaurant. However, I have ordered sushi and sashimi while seated at the Teppan grill; it is good. The service is always entertaining and professional. I have no complaints when ordering in the restaurant (dine-in). My favorites are from the "Shogun Dinner" menu -- and include the "New York Steak & Diver Scallops" and the "Filet Mignon & Calamari Steak." Dinner entrees come with soup, salad, vegetables, and white rice (fried rice is $2 more but completely worth it). Inconsistency is most prevalent when ordering takeout. When ordering takeout, I have found the quality and quantity to be inconsistent. On some days, the quality is great... while on others, the food will taste bland -- and incredibly greasy/soupy/watery. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the chefs see no need to put extra effort into the food's preparation when no one is watching (just a theory). With regard to portions (or lack thereof), I've ordered takeout when they've put portions of food that is comparable to when dining-in; contrastingly, I've ordered takeout when they've put less than half a portion! My second most recent example involving takeout was when I ordered the New York Steak & Diver Scallops. In addition to the two sauces not being with my order (I had to go back to get them), they included a very small portion of the steak and three pieces of scallops! Certainly, I expect much more for about $35 + tip. And to be honest, as I was eating this meal, I felt like they had served me leftovers (refer to "greasy/soupy/watery" description). This is probably the forth or fifth time that I have had this experience with takeout service. However, on my most recent example involving takeout -- which was about a week later -- I received an acceptable portion of steak and scallops... much better (though as always, I did have to request the two sauces that is normally given when dining in). Overall, this is a good place to dine-in with family and friends for dinner. The food is good and the service is great. However, despite the fact that they clearly want your takeout business by displaying their takeout menus, be willing to take a gamble to the lack of quality and quantity when you order takeout. Oh, and don't forget to ask for the sauce!

I had never had sushi in my life til I started dating my boyfriend, who loves t. He wanted to make me a fan so we went to ShoGun, now our Fridays seem odd if we are not here!!! I love it & the waitstaff are wonderful. Have the eel secial or salmon wrap.

I love Shogun. There is a location in San Diego, but it is not as good and more expensive than this one. Their chicken teriyaki simply CANNOT BE BEAT. same with the fried rice. Shogun prepares these two dishes better than anywhere else I have ever been to. I rarely go to the teppan side, the restaurant side is cheaper and often just as good.

Why the HELL is this place packed so often? Do these people not know that there are other sushi places in existence? Are they all confined to travel but a few miles away from their homes? Have they been told that this is as good as it gets? I don't get it... Shogun is SOOO not special, delicious, charming, or anything else The sushi never seems quite fresh The service is simply okay And the experience is unmemorable I dislike this place even more because I've been here so many times This is a friend's favorite sushi place and he has no idea why I once asked him and he said "because it's close I guess" The best experience I ever had was one time at the teppan side The cook had stopped trying to impress us with lame tricks and just decided to cook. It worked because I enjoyed my noodles, fried rice, and soup much more than I ever had before It's not really even THAT cheap I give the Pasadena location more respect, and that one still isn't that great

Love coming here & dining at the teppan side. Their steaks are great & their fried rice is to die for. Servers and waiters are all friendly and attentive & the performance cooks are entertaining. The restaurant is clean and inviting. Only bad thing is they won't sit you until your entire party is present.

what happened shogun? maybe the original one in pasadena is better. this location is still good but the food tasted like it was lacking something. prices are waaaay to high for dinner. totally not worth it. order the kids meal its cheap and you still get plenty of food. or go for lunch time. when it boils down to it the food is still pretty tasty. sushi is great by the way

The food and show were incredible! definitely worth the dinner price, but the lunch special is ridiculously a great value! If you come to this one, see if you can get eric as your chef. he's great!

Shoguns good but as far as the sushi goes kinda was middle of the road for me. Thought it would be a little better for the price. I know the Teppan grill great but I would have to stay stick more to that if you come here rather then the sushi. Looks like they have a some really good prices on some cocktails.

The chicken I had from here was not fully cooked & I'd grown ill from it; so I wouldn't be returning here. The rice was also extremely bland. Let's get onto the sushi: very mediocre. It's not that inexpensive, I thought of it more as a waste of money. Entirely.

This is okay experience. The food is okay not the best. I tried their teppan and it not that bad. Show was pretty cool. One thing I have to say is that the white rice is cold and hard (hard to chew). Steak was okay. If I will not definitely again because of plain food.

Yo, this may be harsh..don't burn me yet. I may not know better, i'm drunk yelping..Syke!! So my friend and I came over with the reference of a friend. I thought she might know, plus I was still fresh to all these back then. I mean, if you go to a Japanese restaurant, I'm sure ya'll expect to be served by the real ones. Maybe it was just me or my friend. He's a punk at most times. Blame that kid! So about 45 mins to our meal, we already ordered a couple of rolls and we thought to ourselves "Man, this blows!" We gave each other the look. Then that's when he mentioned "Is it me or that none of the peeps working here is Japanese" At first I was going to tell he's ignorant, but then I looked around and I agreed to a point. Then he said "Yo why is the chef filipino and the other one is also non Japanese" Of course, I went "beats me, bro." That's when we asked for the check and got out of there. We agreed this was a mistake, but hey not everything is perfect all the times. Would you come to eat at my restaurant if I'm the chef of a Korean joint? Admit it, yes YOU would!! ps: Its service made me want to slap somebody's mama's hamsters.

This place is the hang out with family or friends but I think It would be lots of fun to hang out with friends since Saki is involve Ü. But anyways this is my favorite place to go. I love the lobster and Hibachi fillet Mignon I can never get tired of it. Ive also been to the one in Pasadena. The scene is beautiful but over all entertaining. If you are looking for a place to hang out with a group of friends with good food and lots of drinks, then this is the place to be. Check it out for yourselves.

Our whole family loves Shogun. It's one of our favorite restaurants here in town. Dining at the teppan side is a lot of fun for the kids (and the adults)! They put on a fun little fiery show while cooking your meal in front of you. They also make good tempura and I like their sushi rolls too..... They make a perfectly balanced appletini with ice crystals floating on top... they have a pretty good Japanese beer selection and a few good wines to choose from.

I'm kind of surprised about all the bad reviews. I actually like this place... We always have a great time, I wouldn't say it's the OMG-best-ever but it's good and prices are decent. I've got nothing to complain about. The people are always friendly and the food is always pretty good. Maybe that's because we always request the same Teppan chef? I can't remember her name right now I believe she's one of the only women chef's there. She is great! Very talkative and funny. We always start with the saki sampler (perhaps another reason I've always had a good time there) and then my husband and I tend to share our food and get a couple rolls. I'd definitely recommend going there with a group of people.

I love this place. I've been going for 3 years now and both the food and service quality has always been great. I love the sushi here. The dragon roll is amazing! The lunch specials are great and really not super expensive. $9-11 is a good deal. I've come with my friends and often when it comes to bills at other restaurants, the waiter can get annoyed because we ask it to be spilt. But all the times we've asked for that here they are completely fine with it and don't throw a fit. I love the sushi chefs. I love the teppan chefs. And I love the special Shogun sauce you can get. Perfect on the salmon and even the beef. This is my go-to sushi spot.

Food here is pretty good-big portions for sushi and quality lacks a little I bet the other Japanese dishes they serve here are better, so I wouldn't get sushi... Service definitely needs improvement. Waiters there seem unhappy.

Upon walking in we were immediately greeted by a friendly host staff. We were sat once our whole party arrived, we were again greeted quickly by our server. Ferra was very nice and took very good care of us. The food was good. I didn't care for the fried rice so much...something was missing. It wasn't bad. Just not outstanding. The meats were good. The TUNA was awful. It tasted like it came out of a muddy river. I know Tuna doesn't, but it sure tasted like it. Service overall was excellent. It is a fun experience if you have never been to a teppan style grill. It is a show. its fun!

I've been enjoying Shogun since I lived in La Verne back in 2010, and to this day I still visit Shogun whenever I'm in the area. My favorite is the BSC roll (baked scallop) it's the best! They get it just right every time. All their specialty rolls are delicious and always leave me satisfied and wanting more. Price wise, they're not the cheapest, but in relation to the portion sizes, they are very fair. I highly recommend Shogun to any sushi enthusiasts.

Came in for a birthday celebration and wanted something different for the birthday. The wait to get a table wasn't bad about 15 mins. One of the things I liked about this place was the fact they cooked the food in front if you which made it a entertaining eat which was great for a birthday meal. I went for the dinner combination which although pricey was very nice and I felt relatively full. I would come back to this place again and I think this is a great place to come for a special event meal because of the entertainment side of the meal, although this place is pricey meaning this would be somewhere to eat for special occasions.

Tasty Tepan and you can get a table in a reasonable amount of time. Sushi is good but not too many options for sushi but what's there is good. Recommend for groups and birthdays

This review is for there waiting service. I don't think the check in staff know what they are doing. You can literally wait way past your time then still get told there are several people ahead with reservations. Seriously let us know in advance you are only checking in reservations. Because you will wait more than an hour when you were told 45min. Other than that good is great!

This review is specifically for the sit-down sushi side, not the teppan side. We ordered a smorgasbord of food: 1) Edamame ($3.50) 2) Alaskan Roll ($11) - spicy tuna and cucumber inside, covered with salmon, which was okay. Definitely have tasted better elsewhere. 3) BBQ Beef Ribs ($9) - it was marinated, but the flavoring of the marinade tasted off and was overly salted. 4) Sauteed Asparagus ($5) - cooked al dente and tasted good. 5) Niku Kushiyaki ($6) - means grilled meat on skewers, which was okay, nothing special. The pictures on the menu looked a lot better than the dish we got. 6) Miso Spinach & Artichoke Dip ($7) - tasted pretty good even though we didn't taste the miso part of it. It tasted like your usual spinach & artichoke dip. 7) Hawaiian Style Salmon Poke ($7.50) - we found this to be a deceiving dish because in the picture it looks like it comes with a bunch of raw salmon, but in reality the dish has salmon mixed with cherry tomatoes, so there really wasn't that much salmon at all. 8) Caterpillar Roll ($10) - according to the description, there is supposed to be BBQ'd fresh water eel on the inside, but there was only a tiny sliver in each piece of sushi. Our waitress Nao provided good and friendly service. At the end of our meal, my husband had a clever description of this place: Shogun is like a Japanese Applebee's. Everything is just par to sub par and I've definitely experienced better elsewhere. Maybe I'll try the teppan one day, but I won't be coming back to the sit-down sushi side again.

I love this place and so do my boys. We always go here for bdays because we always do the grill and order Sushi and it can get very pricey. Especially with theyre YUMMY dessert the tempura banana thing with icecream. And they sing happy birthday. The show that the cooks do are so cool very entertaining. Service is awesome. Very friendly. My favorite sushi is the spicey lobster roll. Love the salad and soup Sashimi salad is very good and kids love the wontons...we have to make a visit very soon.

After 5 years of hearing about and passing by this location, we finally, visited Shogun. I was impressed with the service and the food. I love most sushi locations, as long as it's prepared right. These guys, prepared all the sushi perfectly. had a very thin layer of the rice. The fish was fresh and tasty. I also, love the attention we were getting from our waitress. She was very attentive. Always came around if we were ok, or needed anything else. To my surprise, as packed at they were, they were super fast with bringing the food out. I thought we would of waited at least 30 minutes. Again, great food and amazing service!

This was my 1st time coming into the sushi side. We paced our order and very quickly our sushi arrived and the waitress was kind enough to make trainers for my daughter. I even saw her bring a sticky table mat for a toddler. As a parent, I like that attention to detail. As for the sushi, it was EXCELLENT. The crazy boy was my favorite. wrapped in tempura and warm. The only thing I know is that next time bring a sweater, it is really cold in there. When my bill came, I was expecting to pay $$$, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was $$. With that being said, we WILL BE BACK !!

My husband and I stopped in because it's just too hot to cook. We had been here before and enjoyed it as a change of pace. Because we got there late we ended up at a table by ourselves. Margie, our waitress was amazing. Courteous, friendly and helpful from sit down to check. Julio, our chef, was also amazing. Because it was the two of us we were able to see and hear everything as he prepped and cooked our meal. The meal was also top notch. The fish, meat, chicken and tempura were all spot in exactly as we like them. Flavorful and tender. If you go here just looking for a nice meal and a bit of show you will always be satisfied. We'll keep going back!

Knowing that it would be hard to get in on Mothers Day we decided to postpone celebrating until the Tuesday May 12th at our favorite place Shogun. We had a party of 18 in which we split into four separate checks. Our waitress's Misealle and Margie were the greatest. They were always smiling and never once seamed to be bothered with our request or needs. The cook was great and no mistakes on what is usually a complicated order. These two girls really worked hard keeping refills and clearing plates, they are a great asset to your business. Can't wait to return as Shogun is our favorite place to celebrate those special occasions.

Worst chef I've had here. I drive the extra 45 min to corona just for a better dining experience. My filet I ordered was supposed to be medium. It came out well done. My Lobster was like rubber, and the manager only comped my check -10.00. Last time ever coming here. My teppan show was only 10-15 min. Felt rushed. I wish they all had the same standards.

This was one of my families favorite places to eat, since they opened but after the service on Saturday night we will NEVER go back there again. I made a reservation 2 weeks before the day i actually planned on visiting the restaurant, i also called the Friday afternoon before to confirm. My reservation was for 16 people at 7:45 pm on January 31st, it was a surprise dinner for my sisters' 30th birthday. I arrived to the restaurant 15 min earlier than my reservation & noticed they were busy so i checked in a little early. When i called to make the reservation I informed them that it was a surprise, I was told that my party would be seated as long as everyone that was not part of the surprise was there. So at 7:45 i walked up informed the girl at the front desk that the party was there, except the birthday girl and the person driving her. I was then told that they were backed up do to a graduation that they had just found out the day before & would get back to me as far as a time. in the meantime they moved the party to the back bar area. 10 min passed (7:55) i went to ask again how long, the hostess told me she would find out, that they had tables that just needed to be cleared but people were lingering. (i was still understanding) She then told me there were people with reservations that needed to be seated as well. I was still ok & understanding. The hostess then told me that i could do the surprise right where we were standing at. I was not happy with that comment, & asked her "ok so we do surprise here then what?" She just looked at me & said she would try and get me a time. She also said that they would not be able to seat everyone until the entire party was there. (OK) another 10 min (8:05) passed. still standing in the bar area, with TWO under age children (6 and 11) we were not offered anything, no water no appetizers NOTHING. So there i went again asking, they still had no time. again another 10 min passed (8:15) i walked up to the front & complained this time. i told them that we had been there for 30 min standing, & not one person offered my family water or appetizers. We had 2 small children with us & we needed a time. Its not like they didnt see us it was right in front of the kitchen door and to the side of the bar where they put in orders. The same hostess asked if she could get me some water or anything. I politely told her "no thank you, for the mere fact i had to come tell you." again i asked for a time. and nothing so i just stood at the front desk till i served they acknowledged me then multiple times. asking me if they could help, i just told them i was going to wait there till my family was seated. FINALLY 8:30 we were seated. Our order was taken right away food brought right out. The cooks did their thing on the grill & that was it. Absolutely no interaction. the food was ok, my mom said it her meal was actually "disgusting."One table was cleared right away, my table sat with plates for about ten min, i had to ask for them to be cleared. We took a cake for my sister, i had to ask for it to be brought out by the host (Joshua) the waitress was no where to be seen, he had someone bring it out right away. they literally brought the cake out and walked away. I waited a couple minutes for plates & silverware, & Again NOTHING. i had to find another manager to speak with i finally complained to her. she was going to talk to the "head" manager to see if there was something she could do. Plates & silverware were brought out and left there, they didnt even bother to let us know. The manager asked if i could talk to her for a minute. i did she apologized for the service and understood why i was complaining. she then told me that her manager said that he would take 10%off the bill. it was the most he could do. i told her to for get about it. considering more than 1/2 of the party had paid & they were walking out the door. i had my bill and my mom had hers, they ran her credit card for the amount before gratuity & proceeded to even circle the 18% gratuity. i did not let her pay that i told her pay for your meal thats it. i did the same. NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN!!!

This place is absolutely insulting. The worse service and rude to boot. The chef at the table was an idiot. Sushi should never have a fishy taste...but they don't understand that concept. I've been to this location several times before and never had a problem....corporate really needs to push the reset button on this place.

My wife and I have eaten in the sushi bar area a few times and it has been very good. This review is about our first time eating in the Tepan part of the restaurant. We have eaten at several different Tepan styple Japanese restaurants. This was by far one the top 2 Tepan places we have ever eaten at. The cooking show was one of the best we have seen in years. Lots of fire and tricks and jokes made the experience all the more enjoyable. Service was also equally as good. Portions are typical to other Tepan places. Quality of the meats were phenomenal!!

This was our second time here, drove 23miles just to catch up and eat here. Yes it was a national holiday but the place was not that packed and we came at 2pm on a Monday. After being seated it took 17min just so we could order drinks and then once we ordered I received my appetizer with my meal. My friend and I finished our rolls and appetizer and were still hungry so we waited and waited AND waited for a menu until I finally got up to get it. That's when our waitress came over and apologized. When we were ready to order she was nowhere to be found. That's when we got tired of waiting, went to the register to pay. Though we were hungry we decided it'd be best to just leave We ended up going to trader joes and getting our meal AND mochi ice cream Not coming back here, sad to say but that experience should have never happened

This review is also for service and wait time just to get a table!!! There were only 2 parties in front us and we waited 15min before I had to ask how long the wait would be which was 20min!!! The 3 hostesses FAILED to inform how long we would be waiting even though they see us sitting there. We left

We came in on a monday and it was pretty busy. We sat at the teppan. The waitress took a while to take everyones order. The wait for the cook to come out seemed longer than it should have. The show was pretty good. The food was mediocre and the portion was a joke. I thought for a $27 plate I would get more. Not even half of my plate was covered with food. The waitress didn't come around to ask if we needed anything (which we needed refills) This place was forgetful, I'm a little upset I payed over $70 for a dinner that I did not enjoy at all. I do not intend on coming back.

Horrible. I've been here many times before and have loved it. Today, not at all. I ordered from the sushi side and the sashimi was smaller than it is usually cut, and the San Diego roll was just a California Roll with tempura shrimp. It didn't taste good. My waitress didn't do anything aside from sit at another table with another waitress and talk. I even had to ask a different waitress to get a box and my check. It will be a while before I eat here again. I need to forget how bad it was today before I come back.

I came here for a company party recently and we had a great time. We were seated in the banquet room, which was nice and perfect for our group. There menu has a great selection of appetizers, sushi rolls, Teppan meals and drinks. We ordered several appetizers and sushi rolls to start and they were brought to us right away with our drinks. We all ordered Teppan meals and our cook was great. He was fun and cooked everything perfectly. Service was very friendly and they were on top of everything. This is a great place for a large party or night out with a date.

Yakitori was more like Yuckytori. Not even hot enough sizzle on iron skillet presented to me. Asked for medium rare on the beef, got overdone. Spices and sauce tasted like pre-packaged bought. Don't get me started on the sushi. Day old, not fresh. Enough said,

I love shogun, they always have the best and most fresh sushi! They don't have the best selection of rolls but they are always fresh!

Great sushi, good service and great drinks. We ate at the bar, which has a nice relaxed atmosphere, and the bartender was there to quickly take care of all our needs. Greg had teriyaki mahi mahi with salad miso rice and California roll. I had a shrimp, crab, asparagus with Cajun Ahi Tuna on top sushi roll, Amazing!! Along with teriyaki chicken (it was okay, tasted like the broiler had just been cleaned ) with salad, miso and rice. Good Mai Tai! It would have been 5 stars if my sushi had come out before my meal, and if my chicken had been marinated and grilled rather than broiled. We will be back.

Our cook was amazing. I've eaten here several times and never felt compelled to post a review. If I had, it would have been 3 star or so. Our chef made our evening. Her name was Kamon. She was funny as well as fast. The food was cooked perfectly. She made the experience for us. I'll be back and I'll wait for her.

Ordered the steak and hibachi scallops, plate came pretty fast (much sooner than expected) but with steak and shrimp instead. Aside from that hiccup, the steak was very tasty and so was the sushi. New spot that we'll be frequenting again. As for the service it was moderate-to-good but with large groups can take awhile to get the waitresses attention for a table of 2.

This place is fun. It is dinner and a show. The food is delicious. I ordered the Aki, which is filet mignon, chicken and shrimp. WARNING! They cook their beef how it is supposed to be cooked. What I mean by this is most places slightly overcook their beef. If you order rare(cool red center) you normally get medium rare(warm red center) I always ask for rare so that I can get medium rare. This place knows what they're doing. I ordered it rare and got it rare. I could have asked for them to cook it more but I was hungry and didn't care lol. This place is a bit pricey but worth it every now and then. Fried rice is $2 extra and delicious. Also, for those that like it spicy, ask them for their pepper paste. I don't know what it is, but it is spicy and a little sweet. Tastes great on the rice and the veggies and the meat lol. Put it on everything. Will have your nose running a bit.

My husband and I often come here, the staff is friendly, and the sushi is great. They have lunch specials during the week days that add value.

The sushi is awesome and Chef's are friendly. The waiters are super slow though. I come back because the suhi is worth the wait. MmmMmm...

Came here with my family and grandparents for dinner. First things first, this establishment is extremely Americanized. I ordered a 3 item combination meal with chicken teriyaki, vegetable tempura, and tonkatsu. The vegetable tempura was okay, but I should have ordered the shrimp tempura since it came with shrimp and vegetables. The tonkatsu was extremely tough and the chicken teriyaki was bland to say the least. My father's meal was cold and undercooked so sent it back. When they gave him a "fresh" made meal, it was overcooked. My sister's meal came after I was done with my meal. Overall, the service was great as our server was very concerned with our food so she gave us a discount for my father's meal.

Best sushi around! My favorite rolls are the rainbow and house rolls. There's cooked and raw sushi! There's a full bar and 3 different sitting options. The staff is always friendly and you can make reservations because it gets crowded most nights. Excellent for parties and get togethers!

I enjoyed this place. Though its Americanized Japanese food (not very authentic), the atmosphere is great and the service is great too. I ordered spicy chicken dinner with fried rice (tapanyaki), it's tasty with a little kick to it. Chief was very friendly, I had a good time. Btw, beers are expensive, don't drink too much. (Yes, they have a full bar in here)

Went for late lunch.. sushi great. Tempura undercooked and greasy. Tonkatsu ok. Only two pieces of cucumber. Disappointed

I've always loved this place but the service has gone way down hill! We sat here about 25 minutes before we were able to flag someone down to take our drink order... The service didn't get any better the entire night :( Not to mention, they have 4, yes 4, chicks out front to seat people and they are not professional in the least bit. I'm very disappointed to say that my favorite spot has finally become my least favorite. I hope they figure this all out and get back to good. But until then, I'll be going somewhere else.

Came here for my first time Friday. Made reservations. No complaints. New York steal and scallops were on point with a Sapporo. Chief put on a good show. $100 for two with beer. I would come back.

This place is tucked away in the back of a shopping center, but it's worth looking for it. We've been coming here for years, and just came back once again to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We also frequent other Teppan Grills in the area, but this one is pound for pound the best one. It's big rival is the one that starts with a B, and rhymes with Banana. Although, I can think of half a dozen other Teppan grills, this one outperforms all the others. Literally, the cooking performance is better. The chefs are more charismatic, they are more interactive, and simply funnier. This is 40% of why we come here. If I wasn't looking for a performance, I'd go to a regular sit-down restaurant. The service is excellent!! From the host to the servers, they are all very friendly! A real rarity in an Asian eatery. The other 60% is the food. And in about a dozen times we've come, I've yet to have a negative experience. The food is always great. I prefer their fried Rice to other similar places. I've even made pit stops to just order a take-out order of their fried rice. Depending on my mood, and my doctor's orders, I may have the steak or the chicken or the fish, or all three. You can't go wrong!! (Unless you're vegetarian, in which case just order a salad or a soup and grilled veggies.) The prices are what you'd expect, but if you are on a budget, come during lunch hours, before 3pm for half price dishes and smaller portions that will still fill you.

Always worth it! I cannot say enough about this restaurant! From the food, to the service to the entire atmosphere! Both the Tepan tables and sushi area are clean, bright and full of life! Kaman is THE BEST chef at the Tepan tables and keeps things fresh and lively! Even after being there more times than I can even imagine, she always comes up with something new and witty and does it with a smile! Can't beat what she serves up! I enjoy the filet Chateaubriand style - they no longer have it on the menu but I always ask - with "Japanese spaghetti (aka bean sprouts - which they discontinued but still have if you ask)." Also love the sesame chicken and calamari steak! The fried rice is AMAZING!!! My friends love it with the sauce made for the chicken and shrimp. As a purest, I like mine just how it is! For waitresses, I always ask for Fera or Maya! They know my order, but also come back and are always asking if we need anything and, again, there with a smile and thoughtful words! Impeccable service!!! Wayan and Jesus at the bar are always up for a chat unless they are busy, and let's just say, they always are! The sushi has always been fresh and melt in my mouth delightful! I will definitely be going back!

This place sucks... I usually go to the dining part so I am not sure about the grill. I've been here many times for lunch and each time it seems worse. The service is lousy, the food has no flavor and I get an upset stomach afterwards. I will not go back.

The other sushi place we typically order carry out from started being douchy and won't take carry out orders at night anymore. So we decided to try shogun because it's literally down the street from us and got good reviews. We tried the spicy tuna roll, lobster roll and rainbow roll. Absolutely delicious!!! We enjoyed all three rolls so much and they were very generous with the soy sauce in our carry out order unlike a lot of other sushi joints that skimp on the soy sauce for some reason. My husband was also impressed with the inside of the restaurant and said that the hostess and whomever else greeted him were very nice and pleasant. We will definitely return to eat here and will also be carrying out sushi again.

Wish I lived closer so I could come more often. Great food, great atmosphere and service was good. Had the tuna poke and the grilled salmon roll, what a hit! Had to use my chopsticks to keep people away... Will be back

First time here after lottery views and recommendations... on a Wednesday night called around 1 PM and made reservations at 9 PM was only available and they would only see party here. Arrived at 8:50 with full party here and there was still a way almost one hour. Killed sometime in the small bar area ordered a geisha and a Neko both were alright, had a great bite just a little to sweet for my preference. Once you enter the front there is definitely not enough seating they need to add more chairs especially if they have people waiting. Thank you tried offer free I don't know me but maybe next of bull to spit out the show would be nice..... Over all I have this experience a 3 star out of generosity.... This place really needs to get organized food was good but a wait that was over a hour w reservations? Now that's a joke

Sushi bar was the way to go on a Saturday night---no waiting. Ordered appetizers, miso soup, a couple sushi rolls and fried rice. Teppan tables are good for groups and special occasions. All service staff is attentive. Family friendly. Overall, pleasant place to dine.

As I work in Claremont, I've come to stop in at Shogun from time to time with some coworkers. I know there is a sushi side and a grill side to Shoguns, but I usually dine at the grill. I really enjoy this place, nice atmosphere but can be kinda loud at times. The chefs are talented to say the least, although some are better at conversing with the customers than they are at displaying their culinary skills and vise versa. The food is great, and their drink selection is on point. I love their filet mignon dinner! This place can be a bit pricey, but you really get your money's worth. Most dinners come with a shrimp appetizer, vegetables and fried or white rice, of course there is no comparison for me, their fried rice is AMAZING. The chefs put on a good show, again either with humor or sheer kitchen mastery. Its nice in a way because it does make it so each experience is a bit different from the last. I love Shogun, it is my after work dinner stop to enjoy good friends, good food and have a great time.

The food is great! I've been to other Teppan style restaurants and this one by far has the most FLAVOR in their food! I did give it one star short of perfect, because the waitstaff is a bit on the slow side. Obviously this place is doing it right... There is always a crowd and lots if smiling faces!

I love this place! Consistently great food and service! The spicy lobster roll is my favorite. The lunch and dinner combinations are a great value too. The ingredients are always great quality, very fresh. And just as good as the food, the friendly servers keep us coming back. Nao and Yoshi are our favorites, but we always receive great service from everyone.

Enjoyed the service and fresh sushi. Had the rainbow roll and the happy hour price of $7 fit perfectly in my budget. Loved the tenderness of the Niku Kushiyaki skewered beef with shishito peppers.

The Sushi is fantastic, I really like the bar where it spins around in a circle. The customer service is very friendly, very nice atmosphere of rocks when you walk in. The prices can be a little high, but it is a very nice atmosphere and food quality!

Brought my wife and a good friend to this restaurant, and all of us had an awesome time being here. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was having a great time. I wish I lived closer to this location because I'd come here more often, the dining experience was awesome. Our waiter and cook were very professional and didn't hesitate once to make sure that we were all having a great time. I really can't wait to go back too.

I love the sushi at shogun. Always fresh and tast great. Good atmosphere and good sushi chefs. Can get busy on the weekends so make a reservation for the grill. I've even got sushi rolls to go and they taste great. The best deal by far is the sushi lunch special. 1 roll, soup or salad and appetizer with your drink. If you're loking for sushi this is the place.

This Shogun was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The service was awful and we had a reservation at 7:30 and didn't get seated until 9:15. The chef dropped our food on the table and the put it on our plate. We should have left but it was a special night for my child. My younger children feel asleep because they were so tired of waiting to eat. I will never recommend to go their. The manager offered and took one meal off our bill but he should have took care of the bill and gave us a complementary meal to come back. But I would never....... Ever go back!

My fiancé's mother loves to come here. I don't get it. The food is okay but not worth what you have to pay. The show is cute at first, but not so much the second or third time. Most of the time, I feel as the chicken and steak are too dry and the lobster too salty. However, I did really like the Las Vegas roll. That was pretty delicious. Overall, my experience here was decent, but I don't think I would go on my own.

Like many other teppanyaki restaurants, Shogun has the tricks, the decor and the predominately non-Asian crowd. I'm not saying the food is BAD, it just isn't, ya know, authentic Japanese food. Sadly, the chef that served us didn't do all the tricks. :( BUT I guess I earned more protein because he gave me a lot more seafood than the rest of my family. PUAHA. But yeah, inconsistency isn't good. I ordered soba and it was al dente, like pasta, which is odd. And it lacked a lot of flavor. The sushi is alright... There isn't much to say about this place. The food is mediocre. There are better teppanyaki restaurants that I would venture to instead.

This is our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries, date night...you name it! The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly. We are regulars, so they are like family! All of the teppan cooks are fun, knowledgeable and super skilled; it's a show every time you sit at the grill! Ask for Kaman for your chef!

What can I say, this place has never let me down. I come here a hell of a lot and everything that I have ordered is great. I 99.9% stick to the sushi, but I have came here before and had the teppan grill. My favorite rolls are the Double Shrimp roll, the N'Sane roll and the Spicy Lobster roll. They are so filling and always hit the spot. Lately I have been ordering their spicy edamame, it is so addicting. The flavors are perfect. They also have a good happy hour. I wish they had AYCE, because I would tear that place up on the regs, ya dig?! I get to-go orders here regularly and they are fast and very nice at the front desk. This place is the bomb!

Best sushi place in La Verne! The lunch combos are awesome- so much food! Love coming here for lunch and dinner at the sushi dining area. I haven't tried their teppanyaki style eating, where they cook in front of you, but I'm sure it's fabulous! My favorite sushi roll is the kamikaze roll!

One of my favorite spots. We usually go for lunch because they have lunch specials for almost half the price than dinner. My favorite is the chicken yakisoba with the house chili paste. Kaman is the BEST cook in the grill.

The service is great and the food is even better. We sat at the Teppan Grill last night and had Tom for the 2nd time. He prepares the food perfectly and is the most entertaining cook. He entertains the adults and children alike. The food is delicious and melts in your mouth. Will not be going to Benihana when there's Shogun around

Shogun is a great place to eat sushi, yesterday I went their for my 18th birthday with a couple of friends. I really enjoy eating their because the employees and chefs are professional and very welcomed. They always have a smile on their face when their working. Their food is delicious, they have proper cooking skills I've never had not well cooked food at shogun. Their very well organized with the restaurant even though you want to have a reservation or just come it because most the time their always busy. That means that Shogun is doing a fantastic since their making good busy, even if you have to wait to be seated I think it's worth a a wait, they will satisfied you. I would really prefer people go to Shogun for good sushi I promise you you won't regret it.

So I'm updating 8 months later and I wish I could give this place 0 STARS!! I went from loving this place to being disgusted by it! My sister recently went to shogun for a weekly meal with her husband and she notices her husband blowing at his plate. To her surprise she sees a baby roach crawling on his plate going towards his sushi! So he doesn't just have raw fish on his plate he might have a roach head somewhere in there too! GROSS!! So she asks one of the waiters to get the manager and the manager is so rude that she just sends the waiter out to say it's on the house. First of all be a freaking professional and at least say sorry for the inconvenience and actually show your face not send a waiter out! That's not there job!! My sister is a licensed dietician and has a food safety handlers manager certificate and is going to use it to her advantage to the health department! She did her research and come to find out this place was inspected twice in 2014 and both times it was docked points for lack of vermin proofing the facility, which basically means they have roaches crawling all over your sushi!!! Well thanks shogun I just cancelled my valentines plan! Good luck on that problem, better get it fixed before you guys loose more customers!!
